Characteristics and attention issues of FRP grating

With the overall development of FRP gratings and FRP covers, FRP products are also developing in the petroleum industry. The drilling and exploitation of oil is gradually extending from land to ocean, and the ocean is also extending from shallow sea to deep sea to meet market demand. The environment of land and sea is very different. Most of the land mining equipment is made of steel. However, the deep-sea development uses steel but encounters many technical problems, such as seawater corrosion. (FRP grating, FRP cover) is mainly used in the subsea oil field. Presents its characteristics in 5 aspects:

1. Lightweight. The density of carbon fiber is about 1.76~1.80g/cm³, the density of the composite material is between 1.50~1.60g/cm³, and the density of steel is about 7.87g/cm³. Obviously, FRP is much lighter than steel.

2. High fatigue strength. FRP has high fatigue strength, significantly better than steel, and has a long service life. In particular, the reciprocating motion of the sucker rod causes the unbalance of the seawater pressure outside the tube and the pressure inside the tube to cause fatigue of the material, resulting in fatigue fracture. Using FRP sucker rods can solve this problem.

3. High specific strength and high specific modulus. The specific strength of FRP is about 7 to 12 times that of steel, and the specific modulus is about 3 to 5 times. Therefore, FRP can be used to manufacture various products that are light but strong and rigid and firm.

4. Corrosion resistance. FRP has strong acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance in various environments, and does not rust. Its service life in seawater is much longer than that of steel parts.

5. Excellent thermal performance. The thermal expansion coefficient of FRP is small, the axial thermal expansion coefficient is about -0.1×10-6/℃, and the thermal expansion coefficient perpendicular to the axial direction is about +35×10-6/℃. It is not brittle in a cold environment, and is dimensionally stable in a hot environment. The heat resistance of FRP largely depends on the matrix resin. As far as the heat resistance of carbon fiber is concerned, it can be used for a long time in the air below 300°C.

Several aspects of FRP grating should be paid attention to:

First of all, a good environment. The environment includes two points, one is the natural environment and the other is the man-made environment.

1. In the natural environment, the temperature should be kept at a fairly stable temperature, generally between 21 and 28°C. The humidity should also have a fairly suitable environment, it is recommended to be between 40 and 60, not more than 65.

2. The man-made environment requires a clean production workshop and gas source.

Secondly, high-quality FRP materials. When choosing to make FRP products (such as FRP grating), pay attention to selecting qualified raw materials and auxiliary materials.

Then, there must be a reasonable production schedule. The time of the product is determined by the chemical characteristics of the raw materials and auxiliary materials, so the production schedule should be arranged according to the nature of the raw materials and auxiliary materials.
